Christy Lang Hearlson

Christy Lang Hearlson is Assistant Professor of Religious and Theological Education at Villanova University, where she has been on faculty since 2017. An ordained Presbyterian minister, she received Master of Divinity and Master of Christian Education degrees from PTS in 2005. She served The Brick Presbyterian Church in New York City from 2005-2010 and then earned a PhD in Practical Theology and Christian Education from PTS (2016). At Villanova, she co-leads the Heart of Teaching program, which trains master’s and doctoral students to teach theology and religious studies. She also teaches undergraduate courses about children, spirituality of attention, and ecology. In 2022, Dr. Lang Hearlson received both Villanova University’s Junior Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award and Whitworth University’s Mind and Heart service award. Her scholarship focuses on ecological faith amid consumer culture, creative pedagogies, and young people. She is currently directing a grant about the formation of children’s ecological spirituality in worship. She lives with her spouse, Rev. Dr. Adam Hearlson (Phd 13, MDiv 08) and their two sons, Elliot and Eamon, outside of Philadelphia.
